Project 2: Narrative Requirements

The purpose of this Narrative Project is to showcase your work in writing, digital photography, graphic design, audio engineering, and web production by producing a graphic novel, illustrations, an audio story with original music from a story written by you. The audience for your project work and website is the world. When completed, the general public will be invited to attend an Exhibition of your website.

The applications you will use for this project, at the minimum, include Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Pro Tools.

A large portion of this project in Digital Media is music and illustrations. You'll be composing and producing music that will accompany you reading your short story in addition to SFXs. You will also be using Illustrator techniques to create website banner images related to your short story.

Here are the rubrics associated with this Narrative Website.

Requirements for a complete Narrative Website - Previous student websites (prior to 2018, students in Digital Media produced Animatics and Animations instead of Music Productions for their story) - 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008

  1. Update your Websites/index.html with matching teaser info and images

  2. Narrative Unit WebPage Template
    1. Create a new webpage Websites/narrative1.html linked to a new style sheet Websites/project2/styles/p2-styles.css - follow instructions on https://www.freestyleacademy.rocks/Digital_Media/examples/Fading_or_Sliding_Content_Responsive
    2. Customize the page with these buttons and sections

  3. Home
    1. Add a unique header (text and/or image)
    2. Include a paragraph or two or more about the focus of this Narrative Unit. What's the purpose of this project? What was required to complete in each of your classes and why? Describe what the viewer will see on the other pages as a teaser. Most importantly, Reflect on your learning experience from this Narrative Project.
    3. Include some graphics, perhaps application icons, perhaps from your Pro Tools or Illustrator art to make the page more visually interesting.
    4. Add your original background music to your page with these instructions - use your own music or use royalty free music
    5. Include a screenshot of your Dreamweaver interface - best with Split view so that you can also show HTML code.



  4. Story
    1. Create and add a unique header image related to your story.
    2. Include a paragraph or two or more about your process and inspiration in writing your Flash Fiction - perhaps include a link to some online content that you used for inspiration.
    3. Include the text of your Flash Fiction and also apply an appropriate font and styling to create contrast between your explanation text and story text.
    4. Add some small graphics to add visual interest - floated left or right - amongst your story text.



  5. Illustrations
    1. Create and add a unique header image related to your story.
    2. Include a paragraph or two explaining the Design assignment as you understand it including the new techniques and concepts you learned/applied.
    3. Export thumbnails (max-width of 200px) of your Illustrations from Design - illustration1Thumbnail.jpg, illustration2Thumbnail.jpg, illustration3Thumbnail.jpg, etc.
    4. Export large versions (max-width of 1500px) of your Illustrations from Design - illustration1.jpg, illustration2.jpg, illustration3.jpg, etc.
    5. Display your illustration thumbnails as well as your Artist Statement(s). Use these instructions to present the large versions using FancyBox - https://www.freestyleacademy.rocks/Digital_Media/examples/index.php?f=Fancybox_Code_Set_of_Images
    6. Add a written reflection on what you learned about story telling through illustrations.
    7. Include a screenshot of your Illustrator interface to show your process of making the Illustrations with an explanation.



  6. Music
    1. Create and add a unique header image related to your story.
    2. Introduce and explain your process of composing/producing the music for your story. Explain your inspirations and your goals in creating the music. How is the music enhancing the audio story?
    3. Using Pro Tools virtual instruments and/or live recordings, produce at least these 3 musical pieces:
      1) Story Theme
      2) Main Character Theme/Motif
      3) Story Climax Theme
    4. Bounce out each piece with the filenames:
      "Story Theme by UsernamE (20xx).wav",
      "Main Character Motif by UsernamE (20xx).wav",
      and "Story Climax Music by UsernamE (20xx).wav"
    5. Create an image that will accompany each musical theme, each 1000x1000 px, with matching filenames

      "Main Character Motif by UsernamE (20xx).jpg",
      and "Story Climax Music by UsernamE (20xx).jpg"
    6. Embed the SoundCloud interfaces of each of the pieces of music.
    7. Add a written reflection about your thoughts on producing music for your story.
    8. Add a screenshot of your Pro Tools Session(s) of your music production with a caption.



  7. Audio Book
    1. Create and add a unique header image related to your story.
    2. Introduce your Audio Book. Explain what you added to the narration to enhance the story.
    3. Most importantly, write a reflection on what you valued from adding music and SFXs to your story.
    4. Record yourself reading your Flash Fiction and add some SFXs and your original music to make the story more compelling. Bounce out a .wav file with file name "Story by UsernamE (20xx).wav" where 20xx is the YEAR such as 2019. Also create a "album cover" art that will accompany your audio file on SoundCloud - the image must be a square, 1000x1000 pixels with filename "Story by UsernamE (20xx).jpg"
    5. Add the SoundCloud interface of your Flash Fiction story so that we can hear your voice telling the story in addition to reading your story with your music and SFXs.
    6. Add a screenshot of your Pro Tools Session for you reading your story to show the narration, music, and SFXs with a caption.
