Self-Portrait Illustration: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Katie Kouvelas (2011)

I have chosen to create an illustration based off of a personal trait that I posses which is that I see the best in everyone. In a way, this is a great trait to maintain because I am able to form relationships with almost anyone, and I am able to see the good that many cannot see. However, this trait also has its downsides because sometimes I am blinded to the negative aspects of their personality. In the past this has lead me to get hurt by people because they were not as kind as I had seen them to be. For my illustration I drew a tree with thin branches with roots growing from the bottom. For the top image I want the background to had a gradient design that will give off the feeling of happiness and good, while the bottom image will have a gradient and design to represent ''bad''. The cherry blossom tree demonstrated in the top half of the illustration is seen as a very positive symbol in the Chinese culture. The bottom roots of the tree spell out two words in Chinese meaning ''blind'' and ''truth''. I chose to use these words because of the negative traits I am blinded to. These two counteracting images will work to contradict the good I can see in even the worst of people, and the worst of people that I am sometimes totally blinded by because of it.
