Zipped Tight: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Noah Hoffman (2011)

In my illustration, I am showing my inability to express myself when I truly feel that I need to. In some instances I am able to talk openly and freely about any subject. But when it comes to stating something that I truly believe in, or admit my feelings about someone, my mouth seems to be zipped up; paralyzing my ability to express my true emotions. This is why I used the metaphor of the zipper. I feel that my mouth is like a zipper: when I am in a situation that I am comfortable in my mouth is able to unzip and I can talk freely, if I am nervous or uncomfortable I am more reserved and unable to open the teeth of the zipper. I show a girl holding hands with another guy, and they are walking away. The girl can be taken in a literal context in regards to my inability to express myself to a girl I like, or can be looked at in a metaphorical sense that represents a different type of uncomfortable situation that I face.
