Perfection: A Junior Narrative Diptych by Alexandra Gamble (2012)

I chose to depict the outer conflict of not living up to the expectations of others meeting the inner conflict of perfection. After failing to fulfill the world's expectations, people often become obsessed with being good enough for society and it begins to overwhelm their entire life and becomes the only thing that is important to them. They become perfectionists. My first image brings back childhood memories of putting together a puzzle and expecting a great masterpiece; however, when you see the final product, you are disappointed by it because it does not live up to expectations. For my second image, to show the perfectionism that comes from failure to meet expectations, I am showing the constant struggle of a person to admit when their work is good enough. The flower is half erased and many attempts have already been ripped out of the sketch pad.
