Claustrophobia: A Junior Narrative Diptych by Ellery Seither (2012)

A man developed claustrophobia, and eventually he could not bear to feel squished inside his small apartment. He did not have enough money to buy a larger place to live. So, he decided that his only option was to live on the streets. He then avoided his feelings of being squished in small spaces by traveling around the world and living on the road. I chose a matchbox to put a person in for my first photo to represent his feeling of being stuck in a small, enclosed space, and took a darker photo to add the feeling of claustrophobia. In the second photo, the man is on a map, showing how he lives out in the world and travels everywhere, and I made the photo more light to show the openness and his feeling of being free outside.
