Uncertain Fear : A Junior Narrative Illustration by Hannah Hansen (2012)

I based my narrative illustration on the following short story, which I wrote in English Class: '' You Ready?!?'' Bobby yells cruelly. Slumped by the howling door, Jill's chest seems still. Bobby sneers and shoves '' You'll thank me later...this is what's best...'' Jill falls into the arms of the rippling blue expanse. With a whoosh the parachute opens and shakes her limp body. Awakened, Jill screams into the land below. In this story Jill experiences the terror and anxiety of skydiving while the reader simultaneously experienced uncertainty as they don't know where Jill is or if she is going to be okay. To represent this story in my illustration, I decided to use a dog to represent Jill and a hammer to represent the force that is pressuring her to jump. As the dog has his tail between his legs frightened and vulnerable, the hammer hangs over its head, strong and ready to push the dog over the rigid cliff at any moment. Anxiety terror, and uncertainty hang in the sky as the dog gets closer and closer to falling off the cliff. Terrified, the dog hasn't noticed there is a big fluffy bed waiting to catch him if he falls.
