Obsession: A Junior Narrative Illustration by Jacqueline Portelli (2012)

In my illustration I portrayed a story about a man who has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The man is constantly changing things to make them perfect and pristine. One day, his OCD takes over and he starts to put cups of water in a straight line on a table. As one cup begins to tip and fall the man feels a wave of anxiety wash over him, this is the moment I capture in my illustration. To show the anxiety that the man is feeling resulting from his OCD, I drew a row of perfectly straight cups of water, with the cup of water at the front of the line falling off the table and spilling. At the top of my illustration I drew perfect boxes that gradually change into a disorganized mess, and a reaching hand. The perfect boxes show how his OCD makes him want everything to be perfect and the disorganized boxes shows how his world crumbles entirely when one little thing becomes messed up.
