Grief: A Junior Narrative Illustration by Katie Kouvelas (2012)

In Design class we were assigned to create an illustration based off of the short stories we wrote in our English classes. We were also required to incorporate typography, which is a style that integrates text into artwork. Using Adobe Illustrator CS5 I created four images to display my story, each representing a different stage in grief. Each stage correlated to the details from my story; consisting of hair length, hair color and hair style. I wanted my illustration to be as simplistic and aesthetically pleasing as possible, while also successfully telling my story. To bring the story together I used the words ''life goes on'' to demonstrate how through the stages of grief my character has accepted the loss of her mother and is able to continue on with her life.
