The Barber Bro: A Senior Profile Portrait by Devan Shah (2011)

My character is a half African-American and half Indian barber who lives in Los Angeles. He is not that wealthy so he is limited in his choice of clothing and tends to wear a t-shirt and basketball shorts everyday because he does not have to worry about looking professional for his job. Aside from his job as a barber, he is really into basketball and hopes to make it to the NBA even though it is  a far off dream for him. He lives a fairly content life and he doesn't have any problems where he is in life; thus he has no motivation to search for a better job because he enjoys what he does. He takes joy in everything he does in his life, as simple as it is. My photo exemplifies his life because it shows how he enjoys his life and how he is relatively carefree about the world around him. The shaver in his hand directly shows the viewer that he is a barber, and the smile on his face shows that he is not discontent with where he is in his life, even though some view his life as very minimalistic and slow-paced. The way he looks off to the distance shows his confidence in himself and how carefree he truly is. The lighting is brightest on his face, highlighting his bright  and playful features.
