Fred Krasinski: A Senior Profile Portrait by Joshua Kirsch (2011)

Fred Krasinski is a unique fellow. Modeled after Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, Fred embodies his qualities of incredible intelligence, anger at society, and mental disease. Fred went to a high-powered university, becoming a PhD in his chosen field. He took a day job at Walter Reed Medical Center and saw the injustice that happens in a hospital. He grew angry at society and eventually succumbed to strong depression, requiring medication. He eventually found an outlet for his depression and radical social philosophies: vigilantism. However, he feels scared about being a vigilante and, after a battle royal between Fred and a few criminals, he has to come to terms with who he is and who he has become. In my photo, I used a variety of techniques to show Fred's personality. First, I used shadows to show his depression. It also shows how the character could be a glimmer of light in a otherwise dark world. I lighted parts of the character to show that certain parts of himself and his personality are not all negative. Second, I had in the foreground pill bottles and books to show the odd combination of Fred's intellect and clinical depression. Those things are in the foreground because that is what the world sees when they look at Fred. Third, I had Fred dressed in a superhero costume to show his vigilantism.
