Roller Derby: A Senior Comic Strip by Camille Siegel (2012)

Deborah Mason always wore roller skates wherever she went. It had been like this for years; when normal people wore shoes, she wore roller skates. She wore them hiking, to birthday parties, even to her best friend's Bat Mitzvah when they were in 6th grade. One day, she was approached by the owner of the local roller rink, and he asked her to join their roller derby team. After several months of training, Deborah had made it to the State Championships. Her final race was against her fiercest competitor, Dina, nicknamed the Dinasaur. After her victory, Deborah hung up her roller skates for good after 8 years. This character was originally made using clay. From that, I took several photos of them at different angles, which I then traced in Illustrator to use in the comic. The story itself was developed in English class, where we had to write the same story from four different points of view to really help develop the character.
