Trench Warfare: A Senior Comic Strip by Teresa Zarmer (2012)

My comic strip is a representation of a scene from a short story written in English class. In the story, the main character is picked up at the airport from her father, and the two of them share a quiet car ride home. The scene illustrated in the comic strip is the main character, Max, explaining how difficult it is to hold a conversation with her father because it feels, as she puts it, like trench warfare. Max and her father are shown at the bottom of the page, with her father asking ''How was the flight?'' and the explanation of the trench warfare is all in the thought bubble above them. In the comic, you can see Max with a military helmet, with a grenade and an explosion behind her. The comic then explains the need to speak in ''very short sentences,'' with the dialogue written in grade school lined paper and handwriting. The comic finishes with Max giving the very simplistic answer of ''Fine.''
