Mise en Scene: A Senior Mise en Scene Illustration by Kyle Fitz (2012)

In my picture there are the rough scarred hands of an adult guiding the smooth pure hands of a child thinly slicing garlic on a cutting board. In the child's hand is a butchers knife. He is chopping up garlic and onions for his fathers notorious Sicilian pasta sauce. To the side of the cutting board is a red flower under a spotlight. This scene is demonstrating my character's relationship with his father. His father taught all of his skills with knives through cooking. From this teaching my character learns to use these skills with different intentions than cooking. The red rose in the picture signifies death. In the setting of my story, when a character dies a red flower is left behind. This flower foreshadows the death of the father and the career the child pursues. The son discovers, after his father's death, that his father was a hit man. The father is sort of indoctrinating his son to follow his own profession. The son must make the decision later on to pursue his fathers passion or to live the life of a chef.
