Uncomfortably Comfortable: A Junior Experimental Project by Elizabeth Miotke (2013)

I explored the feeling of ‘coming alive’ and feeling comfort when surrounded by crowds in contrast to my isolation when I am by myself. The background of the overall image is a city building flipped upside down, representing chaos. The orange and blue tint adds more to the complexity and confusion of the photo, capturing the craziness of crowds and cities. This represents my animated attitude when I am with the people I love most in the world. The city skyline is another representation of crowds, another symbol for my animated attitude when I am with people. The bottom of the image is grass with flowers growing out. The grass is uniform and clustered together, representing isolation and feeling less motivation to branch out--somewhat suffocating. The flowers are spread apart as well to capture the idea of being alone. The general theme of the image is city vs. country--crowds vs. singularity.
