All Dogs Go to Heaven: A Senior Surreal Photo by Eric Bohrer (2013)

What goes on in the heads of man's best friend? Is it calculable? Or is it some essence, some radiant form of energy that the human mind could not even begin to conceive of? These are questions I often think about, and that I tried to capture with my composition. I wanted to capture the way floating might feel. A feeling of drifting upwards at a lackadaisical pace, untroubled by whatever is around you, and instead, wrapped up in the beautifully erratic inner workings of one's own mind. That is how I imagine most dogs might feel at any given time, not quite understanding what is happening, not forming coherent thoughts, even, but simply appreciating the beauty of it all. The use of HDR photos in my composition plays a large role in bringing out these emotions. The overdefined, oversaturated feel of the entire composition creates a bright, almost wonderland environment around and inside the usual blacks and whites of the dog's fur. The dog's fur and the techni colored plants blend together almost perfectly, enhancing the appearance of being able to see straight into the dog's own mind.
