Chained Spectrum: A Senior Surreal Photo by Kyle Evans (2013)

For my surrealism piece, I decided to contrast the light with the dark and create a spectrum of varying contrast. From the left to right my piece goes from high contrast to zero contrast in the image, protected by a fence. It shows a dynamic contrast of light to dark, all behind a gate. To create this image I combined two pictures I took. The first picture was an HDR photograph of the grass landscape behind the fence, and the second picture was of the rustic gate in front. Using Photoshop I created an HDR version of the grass landscape behind the gate, which I also applied HDR to. Ultimately my piece takes contrast to both extremes. We have one extreme with HDR, in which contrast is used to create a high definition piece. And on the other end we have zero contrast, which turned the picture into black and white. Simply put, my piece is a spectrum of contrast. My piece did not turn out as interesting as I wanted to - the HDR did not turn out fantastically. Overall, however, I feel that the concept for my piece is interesting and I am proud to call this image my own.
