Conflicting Notions: A Junior Conceptual Project by Daniel Petti (2014)

Through my art, I am attempting to explore the feeling of satisfaction from taking a risk. Specifically, I believe that an inward sense of satisfaction can result from outside risk. Hence, the art: The Mondrian-esque design inside the head represents satisfaction, vertical and horizontal lines as well as simple geometric figures convey a sense of orderly security. Outside the head, the motif becomes far more harsh and jagged. Diagonal lines done in acrylic paint portray unease, and lead to the viewer feeling slightly unsettled, this conveys the risk portion of the image. The two parts of the image work together to portray the message, and shared color provides unity.
