Josh Friedman: A Senior Profile Portrait by Cameron Fukuyama (2014)

Josh Friedman is a guitar instructor, musician and song-writer in Mountain View California who, beyond being a extremely talented and knowledgeable guitarist, has been my own guitar mentor for the last six or so years. What intrigued me about Josh was the mannerism with which he teaches his students and how he is able to approach the challenge of learning an instrument from different angles in order to best suit his student's strengths and weaknesses. Having already been Josh's student before, I was already informed and somewhat biased towards what and how I was going to profile him. However, after spending more time understanding Josh's person, I began to appreciate more the enthusiasm he has for music and the importance of being able to share what you enjoy with others. In a way, the whole experience made me appreciate playing guitar myself as a way to enjoy something simply for its own sake.
