Margaret Abe-Koga: A Senior Profile Portrait by Rachel Uyeda (2014)

For this project we were instructed to tell the story of community member who was not well known. Although the person I chose to profile, Margaret Abe-Koga, is relatively well known throughout the residents of Mountain View, I took this as an opportunity to portray her in a different light. Margaret's unique background and upbringing helps her to understand the needs and concerns of each Mountain View resident, which ultimately allow for her to bring a well-founded and empathetic opinion to the city council.

I took this picture at sunset, since I'm a fan of natural lighting--it's easy to work with and flattering as well. I set the ISO and shutter speed accordingly, and after a few tries Margaret's natural smile made for a great final photo.
