Ruth Parry: A Senior Profile Portrait by Chiara Neyman (2014)

For the profile unit, I interviewed a woman named Ruth Parry. Here I have captured Ruth in her studio at CSMA, a music and art school off of San Antonio. Ruth teaches guitar and you can see music paraphernalia behind her in the shot. You can also see a reflection of Ruth in the mirror behind her. This was intentional and is significant because the same way Ruth appears as multiple people in the shot, she takes on multiple personalities as a musician. Sometimes she's a vocalist, sometimes she's a guitarist, sometimes she's a percussionist, the list goes on.

Ruth is not a luddite, but she is very interested in what can be achieved without excessive technology. For this reason, I made the photograph black and white to give it a more mature feel, free from the over-saturation of a screen based generation.
