Susie Werner: A Senior Profile Portrait by Adam Poltorak (2014)

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to explore the life of the committed and compassionate mother, Susie Werner. Susie is a project manager at HP. She is the mother of two children, Alison and Derek. Her daughter, Alison, has been diagnosed with autism and what originally interested me was how exactly Susie copes with her situation. I wanted to know her strategies and understand the daily struggles she overcomes. From this project, I learned more about autistic children and what it takes to be a supportive mother. I understand the hardship that Susie perseveres through. She showed me how important it is to fight for what you believe in and never give up. My perspective changed while I observed the relentless characteristics of Susie as she tackles her obstacles; a characteristic I will incorporate in my own life.
