Being Overwhelmed through Driving: A Junior Conceptual Project by Edgar Saadi (2015)

For the fine art component of my piece, I chose to use watercolors. This wound up becoming the background I used in the piece, after I scanned it and put it into illustrator. For my digital art, I used illustrator to create everything you see here, other than my watercolor background. This piece expresses my concept statement in numerous ways. First, the gradient color scheme on the watercolor and the other digital arts elements express the feeling of being overwhelmed, and then progressing to driving, and freedom. The overwhelmed feeling is represented by the dark purple and dark blue, while the freedom is expressed by the bluish green scheme. I used lighter colors to portray happiness, striving towards a goal and success, while the darker colors were meant to portray hardship and anger.

In this piece, the bridge is very symbolic for me because I often find myself on the bridge, either overwhelmed with school work, or constantly driving towards my goal of being on top of everything I have to do. The man walking in the road is supposed to be me, exploring my thoughts and discovering this continuous process I have been in for most of my life, as the car stuck on the bridge. I also used perspective to reinforce the huge differences of being on either side of the bridge, and to show the long road of observation I still have left.
