Senior Book Jacket: A Senior Narrative Book Jacket by Stella Ge (2015)

My book is a story of an old man who has become lost in routine; he walks to the same park and sits on the same bench every day, always alone. One day a young girl approaches him and takes the first step in restoring his hope in life. She encourages him to open up after the death of his wife years ago closed him off. He then faces a difficult choice: does he stay with the comfortable, familiar routine he's been following for years or venture out and try new things, despite how scary they may seem?

I represented their interaction by illustrating both their silhouettes in the fall leaf on my title page. I chose an analogous color scheme (red, orange, yellow) both to parallel the season the story is taking place in (autumn) and also to symbolize the changing of colors. In the short story, I discuss how the little girl has brought color back into the old man's life, and the autumnal turning of colors of foliage is a visual representation for that. I used a cursive font for the title and main headings because it's whimsical and youthful, an all-caps handwritten font to encompass the simplicity and innocence of the story, and a classical serif font for the larger bodies of text for easy reading on print.
