Red Wheelbarrow: A Junior Conceptual Transport Project by Isabella Velasco (2017)

For my transport project, I chose to photograph a wheel of an old metal wagon that has been sitting on the side of my house for years. This wagon was used very often by my sister and I when we were little kids but now that we are older, it has not been touched in years. When photographing the wheel, I chose to not move the object and leave it where I originally found it. I shot this photo a little after the golden hour so that the photo was more on the dark side to add to the dark vibe that I wanted for my shot. My reasoning for this is because there were some green weeds that were growing in front of the wheel and around the wagon, and I thought that leaving it the way it was found would show age and convey my image the way I wanted as well as capturing the idea of my “dead childhood”.

In Photoshop Adobe, I had learned a lot of new techniques that I could have applied to my photo but chose not to. The reasoning for this was that I wanted to keep my image very natural looking and I did not want to take away from the subject of the photo, the wagon wheel. The first edit that I made to my photo, was cropping the edges of the photo to make the subject of my photo much more clear to the audience. I then adjusted the contrast to make my photo a bit darker as well as increasing the clarity to fix a bit of unfocused areas. Aside from those editing techniques, I increased the color levels to make the reds and deep oranges in the corner of the wagon bright and pop to resemble my past childhood, still keeping the wheel and the leaves more on the darker side. After those few adjustments, I was satisfied with the result of my photo and chose to be done in Photoshop Adobe.
