Thousands of high school students suffer from illiteracy and can't get the help that they need.

This is where JustREAD comes in.

JustREAD is a community based literacy program founded by Molly McCrory and Mary Wright Shaw to help these students. It is a nonprofit organization that is based off of volunteers who just want to help their community. Their tutors are specially trained to assist each student the way they need it most, and to create a loving environment for the kids to feel comfortable in. Currently operating in Mountain View, California, JustREAD hopes to create another center on the campus of Los Altos High School, where there are more students in desperate need of help.

Most of these students are not from an English speaking family, so they do not have very much extra help available at home. Also, California state education standards do not mandate reading instruction after eighth grade. So unfortunately, these students are out of luck if they have literacy problems in high school. The inability to learn how to read in class leaves the students at a loss when it comes to completing assignments and turning in homework. This can lead to disinterest in school, truancy, and sometimes very serious consequences like drug dealing or gang activity.

JustREAD has taken in these struggling students and takes them all the way back to learning the ABC's if they must. The attention and care shown by the tutors keeps the students engaged and helps them learn how to read. Participants of the program show amazing results. Many have turned their lives around, and now have a promising future where there was once just a dead end.

Supporting JustREAD doesn't just help your community, but could change some one's life forever. Your donation is their success.
