Kevin's Self-Portrait

Artist Statement:

Angles
My self-portrait is about perspective and different points of view. I believe there are many different ways in which important issues can be viewed. I also see how it is important to recognize these different ways of seeing things with an open mind in order to truly understand the entire picture.
I show this in my piece through the use of multiple mirrors that cut up my reflection each angle only reveals a unique portion of myself. This is symbolic of how a person’s point of view, while unique, limits their perception of the overall idea or scheme of things. However, if you look at all the different angles, you can put them together to see the whole picture. Meaning, it is essential to understand another person’s ideas on something, whether you agree with them or not in order to help you broaden your understanding of the issue on a whole. I believe it is very important to try to see issues from another person’s point of view, because it will only help to broaden your complete understanding of the idea and not just a small fragment or piece of the whole story. I used contrasting colors to further reveal how differing points of view are both unique and necessary to understand in order to have full comprehension of an idea. I want the viewer to be able to understand the intended message when viewing my piece.
