Void of Complexity

My piece explores the relationship of the words void and complexity. I am intrigued how the two words are technically antonyms but when in the context of human emotions, they become interdependent and are impossible to separate. These words are relevant to me because I’ve recently moved from the house that I grew up in. In the moving process, I was surrounded by voids; signified by furniture imprints in the carpets, and the discolored rectangles on the walls, where pictures used to hang. Within these voids lived something that was so complex; the stories, the people, the memories that once filled the emptiness. The lack of color in my piece symbolizes that physical presence of loss. Yet, I added intricacy and depth through the textures and the posture of the girl. Hopefully my viewer will experience my piece as visually empty but emotionally charged.
