Innovator website

Welcome to my innovator project website!

The innovator project is a whole new unit that started out in my senior year of Freestyle, which means that my class and I had the pleasure to be the first to test out the Innovator Project! This unit allowed us to explore our passions, talent, and secret desires. We were basically given the freedom to do whatever we wanted to do (of course with some requirements)! And since we are in our second sememster as seniors, this project allowed us to apply the skills we learned from Freeestyle but still creating something new and different. This project ranged from a 10 piece fashion collection to a whole movie screenplay. This unit allowed us to, collectively as a class, create a diverse and unique portfolio.

ESSAY STUFF FOR INNOVATOR

As a part of our innovator, we were required to write a research paper pertaining to our project. I wrote about industrial design and the importance of it. Feel free to read my reasearch paper!

Reflection

For this project, I worked in a group. We chose to make a fake business, a bakery, for the innovator project because we liked the aesthetics of a bakery. We also wanted to make a quirky and fun innovator project since we are second semester seniors that are about to graduate. We thought that we might as well make a project that was fun and different. We also wanted to be able to incorporate different aspects to the project. From the research process, I learned a lot more about design. I learned how I was actually arguing about a point I didn't pull through in my innovator project. I found out there was a lot of process about design that I missed while making my product and how important they are. I only approached my product with design intuition rather than including technical aspects to make the product function better. (I was basically a hypocrite) I was able to collaborate with others by working in a group. There are always going to be positives and negatives when working in a group. What was unsuccessful about working in a group was that we all had different views and styles. It was hard to come up with a compromise on what we wanted to do. Also since we are all essentially freestyle artists, we always wanted to take over on each aspect of the project. Also, if one person slacks, it can bring the rest of the group down. However, what is great about working in a group is that we were able to bounce ideas off of each other. We were able to be each other’s inspirations and make something better. We were able to improve each other’s work and keep each other on track. If I could do this project over again, I definitely would. I would do a lot of things differently. For example, I would change the way we started off the project. We had so many ideas in mind that it got very confusing. We ended up tweaking and changing the project a lot. We weren't very cohesive about our idea and we didn't have a lot of stability. We kept starting on portion of a project but not completing it and moving on the other part of the project. We were definitely very scattered. I think I would have liked it more if we communicated better. I would have also liked our project much more and have more confidence in it if we added more to our project so that it would have been a bigger production like we imagined. I think I improved most on risk taking. I was mainly in charge of doing the stop motion and making the product. The stop motion in general was a huge risk to take because we didn't know how long it would take and how well it would turn out. We also didn't know how to make a stop motion prior so it was mainly a lot of guesswork involved. I watched a lot of tutorials and articles on how to make a stop motion but a lot of it wasn't very clear so it was hard to find information on how professionals actually make a stop motion. It was risky to do one because we didn't have the right tools or knowledge to make one. It also involved a lot of frustration, patience and technical skills so it was quite a challenge. I think the 21st century skill I improved the least on is social and civic responsibility. For our project we touched upon it lightly but we didn't do significant improvement on that 21st century skill. We only tried to be environmentally friendly but it wasn't significant enough for me to state that I improved upon social and civic responsibility. I think the experience of collaborating with others will help me in the future. I am never really that good with collaborating with others so it was a very important skill that I was slowly had to get used to. I am never really good at voicing my opinion or critiquing others so it was something that I had to practice in order for me to get my vision across. In the future I know I am going to work with other designers and artists so I have to get used to working in a collaborative setting and this project helped me with that. I am also probably going to have to work with customers so it helped me learn that I have to adjust my style according to others but still using my own design style. This project helped me understand that compromise is important and showed me what real world projects are going to be like. I realized how hard it can be when we are given a lot of freedom and a set deadline. I became really bad at time management and coming up with ideas due to the amount of freedom given. So it showed me my weak and strong points. I think this semester showed me what I am capable of and what I still need to improve on. I definitely procrastinated a lot on the academic portion. I know that I am not very good at writing papers, especially research paper, so I didn't innovate on that part of my education. However, since I was able to try something new with our project, I did acquire new skills that did add to my education. I learned 21st century skills and improved upon technical skills. Overall, I really liked this project. There are a lot of things that I would have differently but I think that this is a good project for Freestyle students to do because it allowed creativity and time to pursue something that we might not been able to do in our lives again. It allowed us to try something different and interesting which helped us learn a lot about ourselves and others.

MY INNOVATOR

For my innovator, I worked in a group of three with Alex and Cole. Together, we made a fake company called Pretzl. Yes, you guessed it! We are preztel artisans. With our slight obsession with preztels, we decided to create a pretzel shop. Our premise of the project was to create a fake company so we can create many different aspects that relates to making a comapny. We incooperated logo designs, posters, infomercial product, infomercial, and many more! This allowed us to be diverse and incooperate what we all wanted to do!
