Slideshow

Not only do we creat websites in web class, but we also do audio. For this documentary unit we created an audio slideshow. We had to interview people for our paper and for the audio slideshow. (Of course for the AUDIO slideshow because it needs audio). I interviewed the Vaughn-Nelson family. Vicki are a lesbian couple with two children. I interviewed both Vicki and Lisa, as well as their kids, Clayton and Claire.

In the slideshow listen for the honest answers about Prop 8. And hear the emotions and feelings of the kids, and parents, when I asked them what Prop 8 does to them.

Article

For Design, we got to choose to make a photo book or an article. I choose to do an article. We use Photoshop and InDesign to create both books and articles. The text for the article comes from my research paper. Somethings too look out for in my article are: quotes from Vicki, Lisa, Clayton, and Claire. (The Vaughn-Nelson family). As well as, the photos of their family.

Learning InDesign was really fun. It is a pretty easy program to learn. The only problem for me was making sure everything was perfect. If something got off it might have turn out horrible when it was printed.

Research Paper

In English we had to write a research paper about our choosen topic. The first step was thinking of the topic. We brainstormed in class the types of stories in our community, and the bay area, that we could document. After that we had to find people to interview related to our topic.

For me I chose to do my paper about a lesbian couple with kids. My main focus was, are dads important? The reason I wanted to document them, the Vaughn-Nelson family, was because I care deeply about gay rights. I have know their family ever since I was 5 years old. It meant a lot to me to show the world that their family is just like a family with a mom and dad.

I know it's a very contraversial topic. But I hope my paper, Are Fathers Important, can open up some people's minds to see that there is no difference between a gay family and straight family.

Documentary Unit

In this unit there was so much to learn! But it was all worth it. There were so many new programs that we learned. As well as new was to use the programs we already knew how to use.

Like, in Web/Audio we learned how to use the recording kits and Pro Tools. It was really exciting getting to use the recording kit, I felt like a really professional journalist. We also learned how to make a slideshow in Flash. The hardest part about that was Action Scripting. Many lines of script had to be written for everything to work for the slideshow.

This was such an amazing unit. Making a documentary was really great. We each got to choose a topic we really cared about to show the community and world. I hope that all of our documentaries open your eyes to the world around us everyday.

On my home page you can hear background music. We created a background music controller in Flash. There was a lot of action scripting put into that little button on the side of my web page. If you want to pause the music click on it, and then click it again to start it up again. Music credits: Simple As It Should Be - Tristan Prettyman.

I have learned so much in this unit. We have been working with new programs: Pro Tools and InDesign. They were a challenge to learn but in the end they became really easy to use, after tons of practice. Pro Tools was very hard to get the hang of technically. Getting the audio volume right was a hard part. But I did it in the end! As well as learning new programs, I also improved my techniques, artistically and technically, in Illustrator and Photoshop. I was really fun to play around with texture technques in Photoshop.
