This is my Narrative Project that I have worked on for much of the first semester and some of the second also. The skills required and learned from this process are very helpful and complicated at the same time. I used skills such as photography, graphic design, audio engineering, and creative writing. All these skills were put to use to create and express myself through this Narrative unit. Below is a screenshot of my Dreamweaver page which was used to create this website through coding.
The first thing to do when writing a story is always brainstorm and figure out what to write about. I was coming to the end of the of my football season and I used that as inspiration to write my narrative story. The next thing I had to do was to think and make up some characters. I made my character strong and brave because that is what the ideal football player is to perform on the field. Then I started writing my rough draft and eventually cleaned it up making it more visually appealing and finished the final draft.
Focus. That’s all I need. The more the game slows down inside my head, the better I will play. It is 4th and ten, and I am 10 yards deep watching like a eagle ready to snatch any ball thrown my way. I hear all the fans screaming, I know the stakes are high, and yet I thrive and live to play defense in a 3 point game.
I stand breathless and energized as coach calls in the signal for the defensive play- Zebra. We have been over Cover 3 a billion times and as I perch myself in deep middle third of the field, I get ready to hunt with my claws out. I look at each of my teammates dressed in their white jerseys and blue pants, sweating and showing me why we put in the work and long days in the summer. I adjust my brand new white gloves with that nike swoosh so clean that I had to stop and admire it. As I’m tightening them I am also pulling my long sleeve undershirt to just the right place where I am comfortable and ready to make a play. I look up and the scoreboard says 24-21 with 3 minutes and 35 seconds left.
All of the sudden the offense breaks the huddle, lines up in their formation, and that’s when it gets really loud in the stadium and chaos ensues. While yelling out responsibilities I look at all my brothers who have my back and look at the sideline where the chains say they need 15 yards which they will not get . The whistle blows and the clock starts ticking. The quarterback calls his cadence and on the third hut hikes the ball and pitches it to their running back. Now those predatory instincts I have inside come out as I sprint up towards the line of scrimmage looking for that hole to punish the running back for ever trying to run on us on 4th down and fifteen. Ball in his right arm, he is hustling and for some reason isn’t hitting any particular hole and was moving laterally without intent to gain yards.
Get back, get back was all I am thinking. Receiver to the left who was covered by our corner and receiver to the right covered by the other corner. Then I find the tight end. This big six foot four athlete running across the field on a deep over right at the first down line. I put two and two together and switched directions so fast by dipping my shoulder, using my glove, and hand to push off towards the tight ends direction. In that split second I realized what was going on I see the ball being thrown out of the corner of my eye and the adrenaline in my body is heightened to max levels. First I imagine I am close enough to intercept it, but quickly realize the ball is going to hit the tight end right in the chest before I can make a play on it. Two steps away with open grass all around me I lower my shoulder getting ready to put all my force and a little extra right on this guys jersey number. Crack! Incomplete. It worked perfectly and I had him laying on the ground in pain mad at his team for not being able to convert. I stand over and taunt him realizing we just won, and I made the play of the game. Then I take flight screaming and flapping my wings all the way to the sideline, taking this moment in. I take my gloves off and throw them in the stands, and it lands right where it should have next to the cute girl who had been cheering, supporting, and blowing me kisses all game.
In our Design class we were required to make an animal that represents our character in our narrative story. We had the freedom to choose whichever animals we wanted to combine as long as they represented the charcteristics of the character. We had to keep in mind the values and characteristics of the narrative story chracter when choosing the setting and the clothing on the animal as well. We completed the design in Adobe Illustration and was a process that was very specific and precise.

The process of composing the music in my production was made in Pro Tools and involved components like Boom and Xpand which are tools used by Pro Tools. Then I used the keyboard to control the different instruments and put them in an order that sounds as good as possible.
When formulating a musical compisition it most important to keep in mind the vibe and feeling you are trying to get the listener to feel. My inspiration for the pieces I made were from the experimental and upbeat emotions I was feeling and trying to express.
I learned the application Reason and helped make 8 bars of a full EDM song. Each of my classmates had their own 8 bars to work with and make whatever they felt like. Our final production is below and sounds great.
This is my final production of the flash fiction music where I read the story then put the music I had made previously on top of it.
I also added sound effects in key parts of the story to bring it to life to enhance the visual aspect of the narrative. The multiple adjustments made to the final production which is below, made it more professional and interesting to listen to.
