The Documentary unit was the longest project I'd worked on so far (January to April), and each week was jam-packed with deadlines. The beginning of the project, especially, was incredibly stressful with all the deadlines, since if I missed one deadline, I'd be unable to meet the following ones. Toward the end, though, everything become more relaxed and fell into place.

Our assignment was to find a location where we could uncover the "hidden story." We were encouraged to find convenient locations, since we'd have to return multiple times to complete interviews and take photos. I chose West Valley Chinese Language School as my location since I'd been going there since I was young and was familiar with the school and people. My mother, who was on the school board, helped me organize interviews and arrange with teachers so that I could take photos of their classrooms.

In English, we were required to write a paper on our location. I expanded the issue to heritage languages as a whole, which was relatively easy for me to write on since I had been submerged in my entire life and had plenty of firsthand experience. In Design, we took our paper from English and put it into a book format with accompanying photos. We used InDesign to create the book and Blurb to publish it. We had to make our book both practical and visually appealing.

In WebAudio, we created a website where we featured our paper, book, as well as a newly created slideshow with a recording of our paper. We learned to use Reason, a new audio program, to improve audio quality and create background music. We created background music for our home page using Reason instruments.

Programs used: inDesign, Photoshop, Reason, Pro Tools, Dreamweaver
