How to Prepare a Portfolio for College

Harriet Katz, Freestyle's volunteer College Career Counselor, will describe the process, give suggestions for putting together a portfolio targeted for specific colleges.
Topics to be discussed will include:
- Definitions and examples of observational art, composition, experimental, mixed media and design
- Drawing value, color perception and spatial perception
- Photography
- The importance of originality and the ability to showcase your imagination in your work
- Does your work solve a visual problem? Tell a story?
- Examples of self-portraits
- Why creating a series or a study may be helpful to show your inspiration
- What to avoid
- The importance of the sketchbook
- How to organize your portfolio
- What is a home test?
- How to craft an artist's statement for a college application
- What is an Arts Supplement for students not pursuing visual arts in college
