For this project I chose to create a PSA against human trafficking. I started off with drawing the girl in the spotlight. I drew her kneeling down, covering her face with her hand to represent the fear and heartache the victims of human trafficking endure. I also chose to draw her in a blue dress and blue socks. The reason for this is because the color blue is internationally recognized as the color for human trafficking prevention. Blue also represents the sadness of trafficking victims and reminds us that this is a prevalent issue that needs to be addressed. I also drew a man standing in the shadows behind the girl. The reason I made him a shadow with red eyes was to represent how often human traffickers go unnoticed. They operate discreetly which makes it difficult to identify who they are and aren't easily traced. I made the spotlight over the girl red to portray a sense of danger and violence. This is also why the man’s eyes were red to signify his bad intentions. Furthermore, I added a barcode and a red tag to the girl's leg to symbolize how human traffickers view their victims. Barcodes and tags are placed onto objects when sold at a grocery store or mall, and should never be placed onto a human being.
For this project I used adobe illustrator to create my PSA. I used a color scheme of dark reds, blues and grays incorporated into it as well. A couple issues I ran into throughout this project was finding the right color for the hair and creating the shadow of the man. I ended up picking a dark navy blue and strokes of black for the hair. This added contrast against the spotlight which my PSA needed. For the man, I googled an instruction video on how to add a drop shadow to an object and then remove the object itself to leave only the shadow. This is how the man was created. Overall, this project was fun and a learning curve for me.
