In this PSA, you will see a road with a rolled over pick up truck with a dent on the back bed of the truck. Above the road you will see a tipped over cracked wine glass spilling and leaking blood onto the road and below the truck. The title of the PSA says, “Wanna Kill Someone? Drive Drunk.” I was inspired to create this PSA after a deadly DUI crash on a highway that I frequently drive killed a mother and her 14 year old son. Out of this inspiration I decided to create a PSA with a very dark mood and color scheme to it. With the positioning of the wineglass over the rolled over truck, I’m hoping that viewers will see the wine pouring out of the wineglass not as wine, but as blood, the blood of someone who was killed in a DUI crash. And by pouring the blood over the truck it represents that the actions of someone drinking brought the deadly fate upon the occupants in the truck.
This PSA project was done in Adobe Illustrator using primarily the pen tool. I used the rectangle creation tool and then modified the anchor points to get the perspective of the road lines correct. To fill certain areas of the pickup truck, I created a live paint group in order to color separate areas of the truck. I also used the brush tool to add textures to the wine glass and the blood. One of the biggest challenges that I had with this project was figuring out the perspective that I wanted out of the pick up truck. This was the first time for me making something with that kind of perspective so in the end I just figured it out through trial and error.
