My PSA was highlighting the issue of littering our environment. When littering it not only harms other ecosystems on this planet but also ourselves. Our trash that goes into the ocean gets rubbed into fine pieces of plastic called microplastics. My PSA highlights this issue by exaggerating the plastic trash and putting it in a drinking straw. Many times people don‘t know the impact they have on the environment and highlighting that it can affect our health is impactful. I chose the color blue as plastic is in the water. To make a deeper contrast of color, I looked at the color wheel and saw the opposite of blue was orange. This helped the water pop and bring further attention to my subject.
Using Adobe Illustrator I was able to bring my creative thoughts to life. The first step to this project was finding inspiration and looking at other PSA styles that were admirable. After gathering inspiration, finding a good font was important to help portray the message correctly. One of the most important steps was establishing a solid color scheme which I found with the help of the Adobe Color Wheel. Once all the basics of the project were found I put my inspiration into a mood board and got started. I traced different images and had to pay extra attention to all of the different layers in Illustrator to ensure each object where where it was supposed to be. I had some difficulty with my tracing skills as I am pretty new to the Pen Tool and found some bumps in my artwork. However, I learned different ways such as adjusting anchor points to clean up my artwork and with more practice I got the hang of it. Overall, this project was a great learning process of the different steps to take while creating a creative piece. I know that in the future I can continue to improve my skills with Adobe Illustrator.
