Graduality: A Senior Surreal Photo by Lauren Salinero (2013)

For this project, I attempted to personify the slow decay of old buildings and structures. To make the image, I put together eight separate photos: one of the golden gate bridge, one of Jason, one of vines, one of a keyhole, and four of different wood and peeling paint textures taken from around my house and backyard. I used HDR photography to make the textures in the wood and paint photos more pronounced, and to make the leaves of the plant seem slightly surreal. The composition is inspired by a Leonor Fini painting I saw while doing research for the surrealist artist presentations we did in English. All of these elements come together to create a sense of unease.
