Explore Africa!: A Junior One Page Flyer by Mia Schmitt (2021)

For my one page flyer, I decided to do an advertisement for an African safari trip planner. I chose this because I remembered I had pictures that I had taken on a trip to Africa, and wanted to use those pictures. I grew more familiar with InDesign, and feel a lot more comfortable with the application. I struggled with coming up with an idea that I found interesting, and that I could do. I wanted to be authentic and use my own photos, but all of the photos on my SD card have been used for other projects. That was when I remembered the photos on my personal camera, and decided to go with the African safari idea. I also struggled with the layout of the photos, and fitting them properly. I wanted the colors to be fluent, so I picked more cool-toned images on the upper left and lower left, and put warm-toned images in the center. I think my idea of doing that turned out looking organized, and not too all-over-the-place. If I could change something about it, I would fit the images better because I forgot about the fitting option, and it was difficult to do it manually. So if I could change it, I would use the fitting options and fit my content to the frames proportionally, and do little adjustments from there. I am most proud of digging deep to find these photos that I took, and being able to use them for this idea. This experience will help me in future projects because I have learned from making many mistakes. My trial-and-error process will help me know how to approach certain situations in the future. This project changed the way I see other artists’ work because it has allowed me to recognize how much time and effort people put into their work based on what kinds of elements, from this application, they have used in their pieces.
