This is my Parody song, “Don’t Freaking Call Me”, the original song being “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. The program I had used was called Adobe Audition to put the instrumental piece as well my lyrics over it to create the parody. I also used the microphone booths in the Digital Media room to record my singing, which is supposed to be sung in a bad and awkward way.
I first had to choose the best song that allowed me to just dump my ideal lyrics and see if they fit with the syllables and other needs to make a parody song, then I tried to make the lyrics match a specific message, mine being to be left alone and not be bothered. And the lyrics had to be somewhat related to the other verses. Throughout the song, I didn't really have that much inspiration and I just organized whatever came to my mind and jotted it down before editing.
Some of the struggles that I had encountered while creating this parody was singing the song without the original lyrics to help me keep myself on beat. I had to constantly listen to the song, counting the beats and when the singer began to sing so I knew where to start. I think that was the hardest thing for me to accomplish.
Personally, if I were to change something, it would probably be the song and the lyrics. to be real, I really had no plan regarding the song and the lyrics. And I feel like that would have been funnier to be brutally honest in the lyrics. I would probably edit it more, like possibly add auto tune and maybe some background vocals next time for the fun of it.
While doing this project, I feel like I was really able to understand how things worked technically like understanding how Adobe Audition worked and how to fix audio as well as add reverb to make the music sound more clear. I also learned the simple mechanisms like deleting tracks and creating multi tracks to actually get the project going.
I think the thing I’m most proud of in this project was putting it together and the lyrics because I am a singer, but I have never done song writing. This would be my first time ever writing lyrics for any song, even if they aren’t the greatest.
My experiences and ideas with this project will help me with subsequent projects later in the year because I will know how to use most of the programs later on and I would know what to expect in how I would be evaluated with each project.
In a way, this project helped me to see other’s values of art because I got to witness their own creativity and their own flair to it that shows clearly that it’s their own project and they are happy and or had fun while making it.
