My song I parodied is, ‘I Feel It Coming’ by The Weeknd. The topic of my parody song is drinking too much Coca Cola and dealing with side effects such as mood swings and extreme nausea while recording. I wrote this in one sitting before I went to record my parody song and I was surprised at how good the lyrics were. It was funny and sort-of relatable. I like coffee, but only if it’s decaffeinated and if I drink it with caffeine, there’s going to be side effects that are unpleasant to deal with. That was my inspiration to write this, and I did amazing when I recorded my vocals. While editing my song, I had to go through trial and error with the vocals, especially with the Desser. Some parts of my vocals have harsh consonants and I used the Desser to reduce the sibilance. It was difficult to adjust it as I could still hear the sibilance, but eventually, I was able to slightly reduce it and as a result, it sounded better than before. A few things I would change in my parody song is my background vocals and the vocal reverbs. I can increase the volume of my background vocals to be a bit more apparent and clear when listening to the song, and I would’ve changed my reverb to be more of a studio reverb, rather than a chamber reverb that my vocals currently use. I am very proud of how well it went with my vocal takes. It only took me two takes to record both my main vocals and three takes on my background vocals, enough to satisfy what I wanted for my parody. After this project, I’m going to apply these techniques in my future music projects, so I can improve my production in mixing and mastering.
