Because I loved its upbeat tempo and found it manageable to sing and rap, I chose to make a parody of the song “Super Freaky Girl.” The song’s upbeat rhythm and playful instrumentals made it very easy to adjust the lyrics to be lighthearted and keep the song’s original energy. Originally, I had chosen a much faster rap song, but found that writing lyrics to match the tempo was more difficult than I anticipated. I switched over to Super Freaky Girl and had a much easier and more fun time creating my own lyrics.
At first, I didn’t realize how much detail went into balancing sound levels, but then I learned a lot about adjusting volumes to make the track sound clearer. I noticed that my vocal tracks were very quiet, so I used the normalize feature and the mixer to lower the backing track and bring my vocals forward. Additionally, adding reverb was interesting because it “blended” my voice into the background and made the overall sound smoother. What I valued most about the process of making this parody was learning how small adjustments could make such a big difference in how professional the final product felt. In looking back at the parody process, I would say that I need more confidence while recording next time so that my enunciation is stronger, but overall, I really enjoyed working in the isolation booth and learning how to play and edit audio with Adobe Audition.
What I’m most proud of in this production is how I was able to turn my APUSH homework into something creative and entertaining. My lyrics were a parody of APUSH because it was what I was studying at the time, and it felt natural to connect the homework with the project. As I started writing, I realized that the process helped me remember key historical details while also letting me express my creativity in a new way. It was interesting to see how I could mix humor, learning, and music together. This project showed me that even something as tedious as studying for APUSH can become entertaining when I approach it creatively.
