My parody song is about being super “chronically online”, which basically means you’re so addicted to social media that you’re familiar with the years of history of different memes, funny videos, references, etc. I felt the music to the song Guess by Charli XCX featuring Billie Eilish would fit perfectly for this idea not only because the song is very popular on platforms like tiktok and instagram, but also because it’s very upbeat and encapsulates a youthful and trendy vibe.
When making my parody, I knew that I wanted to make it funny and relatable. At first, I was going to make it about just always being on your phone, but then I realized that I could include memes/references from social media platforms to make it even more trendy and humorous, which led to my idea of making it about being chronically online. What I valued most about the process of making a parody was definitely the task of actually recording the audio because I had a lot of fun singing in the recording booth and matching up my lyrics with the backtrack.
My message with my lyrics was about the tight community social media platforms can create with people all over the world. No matter how far or unfamiliar someone is, you can instantly connect over a simple meme that you quoted and they recognized. My proudest moment during the Parody production was completing my lyrics because I was finally so happy with the final product. I really liked how creative and funny it turned out!
