2020-2021 Senior Lyrical Essays

In English, Narrative 2 introduced students to the Lyrical (or Lyric) Essay, a hybrid creative nonfiction genre that merges the lyrical elements commonly found in poetry with and autobiographical information in essays, memoirs. Students explored stories through more fluid literary structures. They read and analyzed works such as Citizen by Claudia Rankine, and some lyric essays from The Book of Delights by Ross Gay, serving as inspiration to use unconventional and fluid methods to write narratives and autobiographies for their original Lyric Essay. Students then created a Lyrical Essay Production based on their essay. Ssome students chose to produce videos which are featured in this gallery. Other students chose to produce a non-video Lyrical Essay Production featured on their Narrative 2 Websites.
