Hello! My name is Alan Enecial! Presented in this website are all my projects created throughout my 2 years attending Freestyle Academy located in Mountain View, CA. For a little background i nformation on me, I was born and raised in San Jose, CA, my family moved from city to city in the Bay Area for a couple of years but now I am currently staying in Mountain View, CA. I am currently a Senior attending Los Altos High School. I am Filipino, my mother grew up back home in the Philippines and my dad grew up in Guam, both of them moved to California where they met. I love sports and music, particularly football and Hip Hop, and I spend most of my time with my cousins or with friends. Listed on this website are all my websites and projects created throughout my Junior and Senior year. Using all the up-to-date softwares and technology available to us at Freestyle, we have created and are presenting our own forms of media to the world.

Here in the Self-Portrait unit at Freestyle, our goal was to really introduce ourselves to our viewers through all of our work done in this unit. In English, we wrote a personal essay that was based off an object that can relate to ourselves as people. Our focus in writing this essay was to really give rich details about the object we have chosen. We went over several examples of personal essays before we wrote our own which really gave us an idea of how detailed these essays should be. In Design, we created our first Illustration and Diptych using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Both the Diptych and Illustration were supposed to reveal something about ourselves as well. In Web Audio, we created an enhanced podcast of our essay using Garage Band. After recording our essays using the available resources to us here at Freestyle, we then imported the audio along with several images into garage band in order to create our podcast. This first unit gave me a really good idea of what was to come in future projects here at freestyle. With this being my second website I’ve made, I can honestly say I like the way it turned out. In Web Audio and Design, all of the basics of the Adobe programs were shown to us and have remained useful for us in our later projects. In our first unit in English, we were really given a feel of how essays are developed and produced. The Self-Portrait unit was really a foundation for the rest of our time here.

Here in my Narrative website, you will find all my work created in in the Narrative unit here at Freestyle. The purpose of the unit is to see how well we can tell a story. In English, we wrote our own narrative story after going through several examples. In Design, we created a diptych and an illustration that relates to our story. In Web Audio using Adobe Flash, we created an animatic and an animation that are both based on our essay in English. This unit was just building on what we learned from the Self-Portrait unit. For this website, I used similar techniques when creating this website with a few new changes to make our websites be more efficiently developed. Along with new techniques, unfortunately I also learned what happens when you procrastinate on a project at Freestyle. In this unit, I feel like I could’ve made the website and my products presented on it more clean. Instead of keeping up with the process when creating our animation, I chose to save all the work that was expected to be done over a few months for a week before our deadline was set. This unit was both another stepping stone and a learning experience and has taught me not to wait till the last minute on a project.

Here in the Documentary unit here at Freestyle, our assignment was to pick a place and a person who's involved in a community that doesn't get a lot of attention and document them and their problem. For this unit, I chose to document Orly Locquiao and his involvement in the tattooed community. With the tattooed community, I was trying to show how people with tattoos are given a burden of prejudgments and dirty looks along with their tattoos. I wanted to change the mindset the general people have towards those with the ink. Here in my documentary website, you will find my research essay wrote in English, my book created in Design using Adobe InDesign, and my Audio Slideshow created in Web Audio using Pro Tools and several instances of Fancy Box in Adobe Dreamweaver. For this unit, I actually liked the way it turned out. Prior to this unit, I’ve always wanted to do a header bar where it’s fixed across the top of the screen and in this website, I managed to do it along with a couple other new techniques.

In the Experimental Unit here at Freestyle, we are exploring new techniques in creating new forms of media. In each class, we will be exploring new ways of creating art out of our comfort zone. In English, we are creating several poems and a song, which is new here at Freestyle. The type of poetry we are creating is free verse and so we are looking at several famous poets in this area like poets from the Beat Movement. In Design, we are creating art through different methods from usual. In my case, I will be using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to merge two photos and creating one. In Web Audio, we will be creating an animated version of one of our poems from English. This unit, for me, was another building point for me to really get down the techniques.

The profile unit is, in my opinion, the biggest unit as a whole here at Freestyle. In this unit, similar to the documentary unit, we chose an interesting person within our community and documented them along with their issue they're involved with. Working heavily with our star interviewee, we created several pieces of media to project our subjects profile to our viewers. In English, we wrote a profile paper based on our interviewee and his researchable issue. In web audio, we created a profile media feature using Adobe After Effects. In Design, we created a magazine that features our profile essay using Adobe InDesign. For this unit, I chose to base my media pieces off of Patrick Carras and his profile. Continue to this website to learn more about Carras.
