ABOUT ME

Hi! I’m Allison Teo, and I took animation at Freestyle as a senior (2021-22).

When I’m not drawing for my elective, I’m mostly likely… still drawing. Whether it’s for personal projects, commissions, or just for fun, I have always been passionate about making art that speaks to me. My interests are always shifting, and many of the video games and shows that I love are also ones that inspire me to create.

In the future, I hope to expand my love for art into something I can keep with me for life. Not necessarily working in the animation industry, but simply having an artistic interest as a longterm thing is something I want to prioritize. Right now, I think working on concept art and visual development for personal work is my biggest passion project. I’m excited to see where it will take me, especially with the skills and lessons I’ve gained from Freestyle.

I started at Freestyle as a senior instead of taking the typical two years here. While I wish I had been a part of this program earlier, I’m already learning so much from all of my classes about integrating artwork with technology with my own narrative. Storytelling is undoubtedly the part of making art that I value most, and the projects we’ve worked on have emphasized the importance of it. Not to mention 3D modeling and animation are probably some of the coolest things I’ve done lately. Even though I’ve definitely fallen behind at several points and gotten frustrated at my work, I learned that being a creative is the kind of hard work that eventually feels rewarding. Eventually. I’ve had a great time learning alongside my peers, and my time with Freestyle has been a chaotic and unforgettable ride!

I loved being a student at Freestyle because of the people I met and became friends with through it. PM seniors this year were genuinely such a tight knit group, and I spent time with people from both my elective and the other two classes. Everybody was so kind and welcoming, and I felt more connected to my peers than I ever had in a class at school. I really felt this energy from everybody during the Humor Project performances, and it inspired me to reciprocate that energy to my other interactions. I feel like I was able to push myself to try new things at Freestyle, from experimental creative projects to collaborating with peers. I’m truly thankful for the experience.
