For the documentary unit, we had to figure out how to creatively and truthfully portray a significant person, group, place, idea, or issue in the community. During this unit, Freestyle students were tasked with creating a visually appealing product that would accurately portray some type of issue or topic in the community. For our English class, we had to write an article on our topic, and we had the opportunity to delve even deeper into the more interesting details of the topic. In Digital Media, we were tasked with the assignment of creating a magazine that would serve as an appealing way to view the essay and give the reader the information in a more pleasing way. For the documentary project, I created a film about the Coronavirus and the effects that it has on my family. Originally, I was going to do a film about the Coast Guard and the effect that having a family member in the Coast Guard has on the family. I really enjoyed being able to interview people and being able to use the skills that I learned in my film class in an actual product that I can be proud of.
Documentary Paper
For English, I had to write a research paper on the Coast Guard. I gathered lots of data from different sources as well as different interviews. Because I only had one interview regarding the topic of the Coast Guard, I had to use some interviews from the internet. Though I thought the information that these online interviews would not be as useful as personal ones, I still got important information that helped me develop my point.
Film
We created this Mockumentary film in order to practice our skills for the actual documentary video. Even though we had in-class lessons on how to shoot documentaries, we never physically did it outside of the classroom. However, by doing the Mockumentary, we were able to practice some of the skills that we learned in a really fun way.

I could not get the Wowslider to work, as it would not let me upload to the webserver, so I have the photos listed here.
