The purpose of this project was to learn how to communicate through a new medium: podcasts. Most of the work I have done at Freestyle so far has consisted of visuals, writing, or a combination of both. However, this project challenged me to appeal to my audience using only audio.

I was inspired by Transom’s “A Question to Start a Story.” I liked how the hosts used questions to structure the podcast and move the narrative along naturally. I tried to emulate this technique, using a question and answer format and inserting information and music inserts throughout.

From this project, I learned how to edit information in such a way that people could easily absorb it through listening. It was difficult for me to pin down what I wanted to discuss in the first place, as I could not quantify well the scope of my chosen subject. I would tell first-time podcasters to think of a seemingly narrow topic, and then to think of the direction that they want to expand the topic in. This way, they can always scale back if need be, and also expand if needed.
