Reflections

When this unit was introduced to us, the main question of focus was

“Who am I?”

This was an answer I was unaware about. I found myself stuck between the past, who I was and who I wanted to be. There were pieces in my life that shaped me into the individual I am yet there are still parts that I want to improve on. It wasn’t until the personal essay unit we completed in English that throughout the process, I was able to gain better understanding on who I was. Through the various excerices we completed, I recognized the values in life that are the most important and how they show up. From this, I was also able to create what I wanted to express in the various projects I completed in Design, Digital Media, and English. I knew that I wanted all to reflect myself through various values and the lessons I gained.

An excerise I wanted to highlight was the Essence Objects List where we wrote down various objects or things in life we found importance in:

-Shepi/delle

-The green islamic pendants on the ‘fake wood’

-grandpa’s old school yugoslavian motorcycle and the chicken

-Joni, Dini and vini picture

-The clouds on the ceiling covered in a mist of orange in a little corner from the colored spray// clouds in the sky

-scarface

-frida kahlo

-Mariposa-Mana//Mariposa-Hotel in Mexico//Mariposa in general

-nail biting

-Bulgarian cheese

-A1 sauce and diet coke

-Daja Zani dancing

-kuku (nene)

-bukorije

-broken tailbone

-mediterranean sea (more specifically the adriatic and jumping into the water with the cousins)

-alchemist

-evil eye bracelets from turkey (one being with a turtle and the other with a peace sign)

-handkerchief (bridal and grandmas)

-Djemba drums (from both Africa and Brasil)

– “When life gets busy just take it easy”

– 2000 blue volkswagen jetta

-bend it like beckham

-cevapi?

-dad’s gold chain

-first gold metal at state cup tournament

Looking back, it is amazing to observe the amount of objects I found importance in. I notice a interesting relation in a majority of them which was to family. The objects were either directly connected to family or had a distinct connection that would remind of a memory that contained that object and them in it. This exercise allowed me to value the little things in life and recognize the amount of importance they can have.
