My name is Blanki Fernandez-Miranda. I am a student at Freestyle Academy. I have always been a creative person, so coming to Freestyle was the perfect choice for me. My interests span from animation (which is also my elective class), storytelling, writing, art, and video production. Outside of those interests, I love psychology, forensic science, history, and ornithology/birds.
My core values in life are to be as kind, compassionate, and helpful as I can be. I also seek to inspire people through the work I create. One of my favorite parts of being a creator is helping others work through their creative process. I also seek to become more assertive and leader-like during my time at Freestyle and stand up for what I believe in more often.
I do a lot of creative things outside of school. My main hobby is drawing, but my true passion is animation and storytelling. I love making characters, coming up with backstories, and using my art to portray a narrative. I’ve always been fascinated by the way stories can be used to move and even change people, so I want to do something similar both with my work here at Freestyle and in whatever future career I pursue.
My expectations of myself as a Freestyle student are that I put the best I can into every project and focus on the things that make me passionate and happy. Regular school routines, even regular art classes, tend to have strict boundaries and rules on what you can and cannot do. The looser curriculum that Freestyle offers is perfect for me to step out of my comfort zone while also pursuing things I am passionate about. I can see myself growing technically and artistically by experimenting with new mediums and by having a community I can bond with and learn from.
The thing I value most about being a Freestyle student is the creative opportunities I am offered here. It is so rare to see a school that not only inspires students but inspires them to think outside of the box. I don’t want to leave this school feeling as if I haven’t tried something new or learned something from my time here. I also deeply value the community here, as I feel extremely close-knit to most of the students here despite only sharing time with them for a few hours in my day.
