Welcome to my page! My name is Carly Watson and I am a Film student at Freestyle Academy, and I attend Los Altos High as well. I love everything related to stories, from telling them, to writing them, to hearing and watching them. That is one of the reasons why I think the narrative units both junior and senior year have stuck out to me. I have enjoyed all three phases of making a film: pre-production, production, and post-production, but my favorite is definitely post production. I like to say that it’s just “me in a room with ctrl-z.”

Here is my junior narrative that I collaborated with Stella Barretto on, “Love through the Lens.” Here is the final product:

The Senior narrative was a whole different story (literally, as well). Instead of storyboarding we wrote a script and lined it, we included dialogue and audio we recorded, and we were able to be in person for the process! Below is a picture of one of the pages of our lined script, the entire script, and the final product. One thing that made this film so interesting was how much it changed and evolved from pitch to finish!

I have a couple of questions for these videos, namely: How can I improve the pacing/tension? Any tips on how to find music that is appealing and fitting? (for both of my films finding music has been one of the most challenging things for me). And, what tools or programs would you recommend to further improve the editing?

Looking back on the past two years, I am in awe of all the things I was able to learn and improve on, and how much I was able to learn to rely and collaborate with others. In terms of future goals and plans, I will be working over the summer and then I will be attending BYU in the fall. I am going in undeclared and undecided. Although I love many things, I am still looking for my passion. Freestyle has given me a taste of so many different technology and art related concepts and I do want to continue something along those lines in college and the future.
