Reflections Project Introduction

In each of my Freestyle classes we created pieces of art that related back to the idea of “who am I?”. I share parts of myself throughout these pieces, showing what I’m interested in and what I like to do. One of my favorite pieces is my Colored Mandala project where I drew a TON of potatoes. During the reflection project alongside sharing what I knew about myself, I discovered reasons to why I do the things I do as well. This is greatly shown in my English “Why I draw” essay. In there I explain why I draw my characters and share how they relate back to me.

My Personal Mandalas

For the reflections project we had to design our own mandalas so they could be made into a physical project. We were told to make two types of mandalas: a black and white mandala which would be turned into an engraved art piece and a colored mandala which would just be printed.

Illustrator made the process of making the mandalas very easy. I only had to draw just one part of the entire mandala and it would repeat for the whole piece. However the process of making illustrator do that was time consuming. It involved using math, clipping masks, and many different layers. But once I figured it out (through the help of Mr. Flo’s videos) I was able to produce two mandala’s that reflected parts of me.

Why I Write [Draw] Essay

I believe that while this essay may be disjointed down the middle, it encapsulates Who Am I in the way I draw and why I still continue to draw. I have drawn ever since I knew how to pick up a pencil and paper and have used this as a way to share my thoughts with the world. This essay helped me figure out and understand that part of me whilst also sharing it to everyone.
